Overall, I enjoyed staying Intercontinental and theres always pros and cons. Pros; great location(right across the mall, ... tons of shops, many restaurants near hotel, nice hotel staff, comfy room, flat screen TV, nice bedding. Cons; I was in sweet-room but they still need to renovate; compare to other 4 star chicago hotels, long wait time for elevator espcially peak time.

Perfect Location

Great pleasure trip. The hotel was at the begining block of the Magnificent Mile. Easy walk to all shopping and ... restaurants. Doormen were a great help in waving taxis, directions, and luggage. Hotel has 2 wings. An older wing and a newer wing. We didn't know this until we were given a room in the older wing. Very nice, but if I would have known, I would have requested the newer section. I heard from other guests, the newer wing is a lot nicer. Overall, great stay in the windy city.
We had reservations at Cafe Spiaggia (sp), a great 8 block walk up the Magnificent Mile from our hotel. Cafe is on the 2nd floor and overlooks Michigan Ave. If you are a party of two, be sure to request a window seat. We were fortunate to see huge snow flakes falling as we enjoyed a delicious dinner.

When we arrived, late afternoon on a Saturday, our room was not ready. We had an hours delay to complete our check in. We ... received breakfast coupons for a satisfacory compenstation ( unasked!). I loooked at these as minor annoyances which did n ot detract from our enjoyment of the trip. I would recommend this hotel to any of my friends, and will stay again on our next trip to Chicagoo.
There is a free bus to the Navy pier.

The Intercontinental was an exceptional property-- the hotel is gorgeous, well kept & the staff is amazing. (From concierge ... to front desk to bell hops to valet service-- everyone was fabulous.) Breakfast is marginally expensive. There are a lot of amenities available-- but they are all come at an additional cost. (Pool, gym, internet, business center, etc-- all extra charges.)

Friendly Eligance
Christine, Ontario, CA Sep 2, 2007
We stayed on the 29th floor in the historical tower of the Intercontinental in Chicago. Our city and lake views were ... unbelieveable. To think we received such a great room simply because I meantioned we wanted a nice view since it was our first stay in Chicago. I was able to get some sharp photos of the Chicago Tribune tower and the Wrigley clock tower from our window! The bed was very comfortable and our bathroom spacious. We were within walking distance of so many sights such as Navy Pier, river boat tours, the Handcock Tower, the Art Institute, Giodono's pizza, and Nordstrom's to name only a few. We loved the new addition of Starbuck's just off the hotel lobby. The historic pool on the 5th floor was awesome-built in 1929.We attended a very plush wedding reception in the Rennaisance room, also in the historic tower. Our 3 days spent at the Intercontinental far exceded my dreams in comfort and location and I wouldn't hesitate to stay again if such a great deal was to come our way in the future.

Chicago stay

The Intercontinental has a great location; We picked this hotel mainly on its location to city attractions. As for the ... room, it was pretty standard for most hotels; I liked the space in the closets for baggage as we were travelling internationally with lots of luggage for our next destination . They accommodated us in requests for additional luggage racks. My kids enjoyed the movie selection. I wasnt too pleased however with the size of the beds in the double rooms, they werent comfortable for married couples and my kids were in the other bed so in the future I would book the King room and bring in a rollaway for the kids, but there were several conferences and weddings on at that time and we werent able to switch rooms. I liked the policy of non-disclosure of information from the front desk about our arrival etc. We had several people looking for us prior to our arrival and they were courteous without being rude- I appreciated them at least taking a message without giving out room numbers etc. Concierge and Guest services were always too busy to help us- lack of follow up-sometimes no response or we got voicemail- Room service sent up curdled milk twice in a row- It was very busy but I think if you arent planning on spending most of the time in the room, this is a good choice! We enjoyed the location mostly and were out enjoying Chicago most of the time!

The Best Hotel in Chicago
Anonymous, Cleveland, OH Jul 8, 2007
The Intercontinental was convienently located downtown. Right in the heart of chicago. Located on the most traveled street ... north Michigan ave. The beautiful staircase was an attraction and once inside the room it was very clean and comfortable. Plenty of closet space and a manificient view of downtown. Also, the bathroom was nice and clean. Another plus was being able to order room service at anytime-open 24 hrs. Loved it!!

Chicago Intercontinental Hotel
Anonymous, New York, NY Jul 5, 2007
The Chicago Intercontinental Hotel was a good choice for us. The location was excellent; it was within walking distance of ... the Millenium Park, the Chicago Institute of Art, the architectural boat tours, and Michigan Avenue. A free trolley to Navy Pier was about two blocks away. The hotel had very nice amenities; one drawback was the very expensive breakfast. I think that problem will be remedied when the Starbucks opens in the lobby. We were close to other restaurants and one night we were able to walk to our dinner; the other night, a short cab ride took us to our destination.
Across the street is a multi-story mall with Nordstrom's. All along Michigan Avenue for several blocks are all kinds of upscale stores: Brooks Brothers, Saks Fifth Ave., Nieman Marcus, Talbots, Ann Taylor, Coach, etc.

Good Stay with some Tissue Issues
Dennis, Baltimore, MD Jun 18, 2007
This hotel is perfectly located between the Mag-Mile and the loop. The historic building (a glorified Shriner Hall) and pool ... have an early 20th century feel similar to places like the Drake, the Plaza and Waldorf-A in NYC. While we were generally very satisfied with our stay, two events mared an otherwise wonderful experience. The first time our room was made up the bath was left without toilet tissue. Though there was tissue there when we left. There were no extra rolls anywhere in the room. When we called, we got the right away, sir treatment and someone arrive in about 10 mins. with a SINGLE roll of paper. I guess they have some rationing policy. Thank goodness our request was not due to an emergency. Secondly, the next day I noticed that there was no regular coffee replace at the coffee maker. I called and got the we'll send some right up treatment. This time nothing arrived, but when we returned from dinner, there was a cheery message from our total service provider asking if we got our coffee. Of course, we had not, but it was too late to make a fuss. Great on follow-up; poor on action! Even with these failings we would probably stay at the Intercontinental again if the price is right. I just hope we don't have to bring our own toilet paper.
Great Steak at Gene and Georgetti's a non-chain Italian steak house with great food, service and a little vintage charm.

Not a bargain at even half the price!
Charles Mar 18, 2007
The room seemed old, the amenities (a 27 TV with very few channels? What is this, the Y?) were outdated and sub-standard. ... Ice on very few floors, no ice buckets, no in-room refrigerators, no microwave, and this is a Deluxe room in the Historic Tower? What a joke! If I prevent even ONE person from falling into their trap, I've done my job here.
Weber's Restaurant, the charcoal grill folks, is a GREAT grill-themed lunch/dinner spot. Affordable, and when it's cold, a great summertime treat.

A Fine Place
George, Columbus, OH Jan 19, 2007
We really enjoyed the hotel, particularly because of its historic significance within the city of Chicago. The pool from the ... late 1920s is wonderful to look at and, I would imagine, great to swim in (we didn't). The location is also excellent, providing access to excellent shopping and restaurants. The room was also comfortable and quiet (in contrast to many hotels in New York!). We will stay there again.
Either to the right or left after exiting the hotel, one can fine great places to eat.
